"Capul, Palingnga Kaw?" (Part 3)

This tarpaulin signage invites UP students and visitors to visit the photoethnographic exhibit on Capul at the Vargas Museum. It will run until October 7, 2007, so for those who have not yet paid a visit, please do so. Sikat i Capul ato. And this is Dr. Kiko Datar, the man who made the study and the exhibit possible. Jethro Magdaraog told me that he was amazed by the overwhelming reception of the Capuleños re his and the students' work. To him we say, "It's our honor, Sir. Thank you for making us proud of who we are." And below are the magical pictures captured by Dr. Datar's camera. Capul never really looked this beautiful!!

Capul Palingnga Kaw? Part 1

It turned out to be a very fun-filled evening. Many Capuleños graced the opening of the "Capul, Palingnga Kaw?" exhibit and they were definitely not disappointed. It proved to be an eye-opener, especially the photographs that captured the many sights and faces of Capul. I have difficulty uploading pictures to Blogger, so I’m doing this in pieces. Bitin dulo.

Twin Notices

Notice No. 1 The UP Department of Archaelogy will open tomorrow, Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 5:00 pm a cultural exhibit at the UP Jorge Vargas Museum. Dubbed “Capul, Palingnga Kaw?”, the exhibit will feature the research conducted by Dr. Kiko Datar and his students who I heard stayed in our island for some time that most of them have become quite acquainted with the language. I’m excited to know what they discovered. So Capuleños, please spare time for this activity and let’s be proud of our heritage. See you all there! Notice No. 2 My personal blog, Islander in the City , has been nominated for Blog of the Week. Please vote for me via the site of the Composed Gentleman . Hala, botos na! Kalipayan gad to hamok. :-)

Mga Bisita ni Kuya

We met with Maribelle Flores last Saturday at Dapo Restaurant in Timog. During the spirited kumustahan, talk veered towards Pinoy Big Brother. It turned out that balikbayan Maribelle is hooked on it, and has actually become part of the Bea text brigade. So a few hours before the Big Night (not anymore at the House, but at the Big Dome), we went a-posing at Quezon City's biggest tourist spot - ang Bahay ni Kuya.
