Zhyrer Ruiz - Nishizawa

I visited her in her husband’s place, Owariasahi (near Nagoya) over the weekend. And it felt good seeing a kababayan doing well in a foreign land, accepted as she is by the family that made her feel like she was their own.

She is married to a gentle and devoted guy, Hiroki Nishizawa. And theirs is a love story worth retelling. They met when she first worked here in a factory. Falling in love, Hiroki-San pursued her and continued even when she went home to finish her college course. After her graduation, he couldn’t wait any further and offered marriage. They were married in elaborate Japanese style last February.

Having been in Japan for about two years, Zhyrer now seems well-adjusted to the Japanese life. She has studied Nihonggo and her constant exposure to the language now shows in the fluency of her speech.

Zhyrer is the daughter of Beb Esperas-Ruiz (dadi na Muno Arthur and Mana Tasing of the Artas fame).

But huge it may have been, it was not able to steal the thunder away from the real stars of the show - the street performers. This group won Best in Costume and Best in Performance Showcase for the barangay-based competition.

Editorial: A Future For Sale

Note: This post is the Administrator's take on how the recent elections went. Fair comments are welcome. From how I saw it, it was indeed an impressive election. It definitely was more peaceful than the most recent ones. Automation made the process exciting (or worrisome) but at the same time challenging. Truly, it was heartwarming to see people brave the punishing summer heat and the tiring wait just to be able to cast their votes. There is no doubt in my mind that the results reflected the Abaknons’  true democratic will. However, why they voted for whom is an entirely different issue.  I wish to think that in the final analysis, they did vote with the thought of what’s best for Capul. But even with that, any voter who receives money during election time still compromises his vote.  While I do not wish to rob the winners of the glory of their victory, I bet that the aftertaste of their win would have been much sweeter if they (again, i mean ALL of them) did not gi...
