Shame, Shame
The reports I have received are still sketchy, but the known figures are chilling: two persons dead and one wounded. All because of the election madness.
I have always been proud of the fact that elections in Capul have long been orderly and peaceful. True, candidates and supporters may engage in normal verbal tussles, but I have yet to hear of a time in our history when physical violence spiced the contests.
Until now. And I can only bow my head in shame. I cannot believe that a shootout among the supporters of the candidates could ever occur in our placid island.
Deep in my heart I’m seething with rage. And regardless of who started the fracas, I still put the blame squarely on the candidates for their failure to control their wards. All these heat is because of them. They should therefore be responsible for reining themselves and their supporters in order to keep the peace.
From what I heard, one of those who died is from Allen, supposedly acting as bodyguard for one of the candidates. Questions: Why on earth is a non-Abaknon participating in the elections intended only for the locals? And better yet, why the hell do these politicians have bodyguards?
Last time I checked, our town was peaceful until this senseless elections came along. Why, all of a sudden, has Capul become a hotspot that these candidates can no longer walk the streets of Capul without their armed minions in tow? Who are these people trying to protect themselves from? If danger indeed lurks in our midst, it is nothing else but the danger created by these people among themselves.
And to protect themselves from the ghosts they invented, both sides, undeniably, are armed. Ain't that stupid?
For one, the people of Capul did not force anyone of them to run. It was their choice. And they knew that they will have to hit the campaign trail and be publicly visible. If for them to do so, they cannot even be by their lonesome, then they have no business being public officials.
This lunacy must stop. I challenge the candidates to disarm themselves and conduct the elections as peacefully as they have always been. I call on the community and church leaders to unite and publicly condemn violence as having no place in our civilized hometown. And I ask the Capulenos to reject those who, in their blind ambition, think that they are warlords of the island.
Give Capul the dignity it deserves.

Ang alam ko sa paa lang ang tama ng namatay na taga Allen. Was there any foul play?
