Capul's Pride: Top UEP Grads

UEP just had its 45th commencement exercises yesterday March 30, 2009. Gillashe E. Bacayo topped among 93 graduates from the College of Nursing Olivine Batch 2009 with a grade point average (GPA) of 1.50. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joel Bacayo (nee Lucia Eroles). She graduated Cum Laude and was the Academic Excellence awardee.

2 other Abaknons graduated as cum laude. They are Marlo M. Salazar and Julius Manuel L. Magloyuan. Marlo is the son of Mr. Mateo Salazar and the late (+) Luz Magdaraog. He got a GPA of 1.64. While Julius is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Manuel Magloyuan. Although Julius grew up in San Isidro, N. Samar, but his roots originated from Capul. His dad Noly is from Sawang. Julius obtained a GPA 1.66.

They are the pride of Capul!

Two other Abaknons graduated with the degeree of BSN. They are Jed T. Saluib (son of Mr. &Mrs. Melecio Saluib) and Marianne Marzol (daughter of Mr. & Mrs.Dionesio Marzol). Jed was awarded as the Most Promising Student Leader being an active officer of the College of Nursing Student Council for the past 4 years.

CONGRATULATIONS Gillashe, Marlo, Julius, Jed and Marianne!!! May you will be successful nurses someday. Good luck!

    Gosh, i really find this site very amusing. Thnx to atty. reo. Inspite of his very hectic work sked he still has time to do this. Sana meron na ito nung andun pa ako sa USA. Perhaps I shld have stayed there until now. Thru this kc u keep abreast with the happenings back home in Capul. Good job reo!

La Estudiantina Capulena

This, fellow Capulenos is something we should be truly proud of. The dance we have always claimed to be our very own, was featured in a Dance Symposium, and is now being shown in youtube. The caption reads: “This is one of the three available versions of Philippine Estudiantina dances, popular in its broken Spanish name, "Estudiantina de Capuleño". The proper term should have been "La Estudiantina Capuleña". This dance is simply called Estudiantina in the other towns in Samar where it is also popular. The dance could have derived its name from "estudiantina" which is the all-string band that plays the dance music in the many 'baylihan' during the Spanish colonial period. The estudiantina is more popular as the 'rondalla'. It is also called 'tuna' and 'murga'. In fact, in the present day Spanish world, the term used is either tuna or estudiantina. Tribu Mananguete: Landusan Boys

This was one of the entries for the school-based category. Coming from the Landusan National High School, the team was composed mainly of boys. Coached by Mr. Oniel Pelito, they wore coconut leaves woven like skirts as they simulated the tuba-gatherers. This group proved to be the most colorful and playful of the lot.
