5th Abaknon Festival Launched

As part of the celebrations for the Feast of St. Ignatius de Loyola, the 5th Abaknon Festival will be held, counting among others, a string of activities as follows.

I. STREET DANCING CONTEST

Below are the competition Guidelines and Mechanics:

1. Concept or theme plus costume and performance are left to the discretion of the participants based on their own interpretation of the Abaknon culture, through costumes, traditions and rituals, economic activity without copying other regions’ festival.

2. The traditional dance “DOS AMIGOS” will be the beat or music of the street dance utilizing all instruments recorded or unrecorded (guitar/ drums/ talutang / other indigenous materials created by participants) to ensure a distinct identity of the festival. Truly it should reflect the “abaknon” culture and tradition.

3. Dance steps should be the original “dos amigos” and any variations, body movements and costumes should conform to the standards of morality.

4. Choreographed dance steps should be continuous with each contingent given only 7 minutes to ten minutes for their ritual and/ or street showcase in the area designated in the street and final field demo which includes entrance and exits. Five (5) points shall automatically be deducted from performance for any contingent/ group that goes beyond the prescribed time limit.

5. The number of participants in each contingent/ group must be within the minimum of forty dancers ( for school based) and 25 dancers (for barangay based) excluding their instrumentalists.

6. The “Abaknon Festival Committee” reserves the right to disqualify and prohibit the participation of any contingent/ group whose costume/ choreography or behavior do not conform to normal standards of morality and good conduct.

7. All contingents/groups must be properly identified with 2x3 feet rectangular placard showing back to back its registration number and name.

8. The decision of the ABAKNON FESTIVAL BOARD OF JUDGES shall be final and unappealable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be an Abaknon or CapuleƱo by blood and/or a resident of Capul, N. Samar
2. Must be a high school student not younger than 14 yrs of age and not more than 25 yrs of age.
3. With good moral character.
4. Must submit a biodata and pay a registration fee of P50.00.

(Note: Materials for the construction of the booth should utilize recyclable materials and should follow the required size of the both to ensure uniformity of the “teindas which will be used by the barangays from July 27 to 31, 2009. Judging will be done on July 29, 2009.
